Gary & Gabrielle
The house has two levels and we stayed on the lower level with the large balcony overlooking the magnificent ocean and Maiori. The apartment is 15 minutes walk from the main street bus stop and then 339 steps up from the street level, and although tough we used this as our twice daily exercise. The views are wonderful along the way. Delio, the father was left in charge as Antonella and Carmen were away on business. He met us on arrival with a beautiful smile and showed us around the Casale making us feel welcome and we received a lovely fresh welcome pack. We even saw him down the street and he recognized us and said hello and we communicated as best we could in Italian and English. He is a really kind hearted, warm and generous man. The hosts are very interactive with the guests, over our four night stay we received calls from Carmen and Antonella checking in on things and Delio came at least daily to water our balcony plants etc. When we had no mains water for about 12 hours, Antonella kept in regular contact and the water was flowing again that evening, even though she was away for work. Due to the location of the house it can create require additional coordination with the owners on arrival and departure if you decide to use the shuttle and the porter service. It was extremely useful to have the young guy carry my 10kg bag up the steps on arrival for 13 euros. The apartment was clean, light and relaxing with everything you needed to make a simple meal. We didn't use the air conditioner as the house was cool enough with the shutters down during the day, the doors open at night, and you can wake to dogs and roosters as the sun comes up. We didn't use the wifi either, having TIM, both are an extra daily cost, and tourist tax is payable on departure. We also really enjoyed Maiori, a quiet friendly town with easy access to other Amalifi Coast towns via the bus or ferry.
